PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Keith Schafer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Walter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Martin Walter was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Keith Schafer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Martin Walter!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Atkins and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walter fails with a takedown attempt.
Keith Schafer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Schafer avoids it really well and circles away.
Walter shoots in and drives through. Schafer sprawls well.
Keith Schafer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Walter.
Schafer rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Walter moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Walter fails to land the takedown.
Good leg kick by Schafer there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Schafer scores with a punch to the head.

Walter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Schafer swivels and escapes.
Schafer connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Walter's hands.
Schafer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Walter as he avoids it easily.
Schafer throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Walter stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Walter on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Walter can't get the takedown.
Walter is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Schafer is defending well.
Walter looks gassed!
A nice glancing elbow lands by Schafer.
Schafer lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Schafer lands a damaging elbow.

Schafer lands a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schafer lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Schafer winds up and cracks Walter with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Schafer lands a nice short elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Walter moves into full guard.
Schafer working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Walter's head.
Schafer is looking to work some ground and pound but Walter has wrist control.

Schafer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Walter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Schafer manages to get himself to full guard.
Schafer pulls Walter in close to prevent any damage.
Schafer wants to stand up but Walter is controlling him.

Walter throws a big right hand that misses.
Schafer is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Schafer will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Schafer is looking to stand up but Walter isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Keith Schafer just wasn't active enough.
Walter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Schafer tries to avoid it but Walter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Schafer to the ground. Schafer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Schafer works over Walter's head and body with a nice combination.

Walter is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Schafer gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Schafer has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Walter regains guard immediately.
Walter looking for a sweep. Not yet Walter, not yet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Schafer makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Walter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Walter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Schafer slips nicely into half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Schafer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Walter on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Walter tries to roll over but Schafer keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Schafer lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Walter goes for a takedown in the clinch but Schafer prevents it.
Walter is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Schafer is defending well.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Schafer obliges.
Walter changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Schafer fights it off and pushes away nicely.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Walter takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Schafer manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Walter on his heels. He'll look to pass Walter's guard now, I'm sure.

Walter has momentary wrist control but Schafer slips an elbow through the middle.

Schafer shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Walter eats them both and turns towards Schafer to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Schafer. Walter shrugs it off though.
