Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vitali Pokrovski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shogun Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pokrovski comes to the cage accompanied by Keule - Hampel. Shogun Rua will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vitali Pokrovski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shogun Rua!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pokrovski closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pokrovski lands in his opponent's guard.
Rua trying to control the position.
Pokrovski pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rua is keeping the position for now.
Rua is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rua pulls Pokrovski in close to prevent any damage.
Rua looking for a sweep. Not yet Rua, not yet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Shogun Rua wasn't active enough on the ground.
Pokrovski cracks Rua with an open hand slap.

Rua tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rua throws a head kick that Pokrovski semi-blocks.
Pokrovski misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rua.

Pokrovski closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rua did well to prevent Pokrovski getting side control.
Pokrovski wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rua keeps working.

Pokrovski seems to be looking for submissions.
Pokrovski looks to land a strike but Rua avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Pokrovski is pushing down on Rua's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rua is fighting to maintain full guard but Pokrovski has managed to sneak the leg through.
Rua is trying to get back to full guard.
Rua is in trouble now - Pokrovski has advanced to mount!

Pokrovski controlling his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pokrovski seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Rua is holding on tight.
Pokrovski takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Rua is really stuck here.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rua trying to control the hands but Pokrovski won't let him.
Pokrovski lands a shot to the body.

Rua is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Rua manages to reverse the position and now he's in Pokrovski's guard. Nice work there by Rua.

Pokrovski looking for subs off his back but Rua has passed one foot through into half guard.

Rua is trying to work for a kimura but Pokrovski is defending well.
Pokrovski keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Pokrovski wants to control but Rua is keeping busy.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vitali Pokrovski dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Pokrovski counters with a single leg into guard. Rua didn't expect that.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pokrovski is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Rua tries to reverse the position but Pokrovski maintains control.
Rua is breathing heavily.
Pokrovski wants to control the pace but Rua is squirming around nicely.

The referee warns Rua that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Rua tries to hold on but Pokrovski postures up.
Pokrovski lands a nice shot to the head.

Pokrovski looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pokrovski wants to control the pace but Rua is squirming around nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pokrovski has control of Rua's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rua regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Pokrovski looking to control but Rua is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Rua tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Rua is squirming around, avoiding Pokrovski's attempts to control the action.

Pokrovski looking for a guillotine from mount but Rua is having none of it.
Rua tries to hold on but Pokrovski postures up.

Vitali Pokrovski overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pokrovski has isolated one of Rua's arms. Rua looking to fight him off but Pokrovski twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
