PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cullen Castrello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Frank (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Castrello comes to the cage accompanied by Big L - Devil's Son. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cullen Castrello! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Frank! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Frank misses with a straight right. Frank gets a clinch. Frank gets control of Castrello's arms and successfully pulls guard. Frank will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Frank looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Frank looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Castrello has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Frank is proving hard to escape from. Castrello avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Castrello gets to his feet - Frank follows without any prompting. Castrello takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Castrello moves into the clinch successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Castrello scores with a knee to the head.
It looks like Jason Frank has been cut. Frank is trying to pull guard but Castrello turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Frank tries to pull guard but Castrello forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Castrello effectively controlling the action here. Frank jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Castrello walks away with a smile on his face. Frank gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Cullen Castrello has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Frank. Castrello moves to clinch but Frank breaks away and Frank counters with a straight right hand. Frank avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Frank throws a series of punches but Castrello moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Castrello thows a body shot but no joy. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Frank crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Castrello - the referee stops the clock and Frank gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Castrello. Frank manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Frank instigates a clinch. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Castrello throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Castrello scores a nice knee to the body.
A head punch on the inside from Castrello fails to land. Castrello tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Castrello misses with an elbow strike.
Castrello with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Frank is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Castrello to keep the fight standing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Castrello with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Frank jumps guard but Castrello stands there with Frank around his waist. Frank gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Castrello tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Frank avoids it. Frank tries to pull guard but Castrello won't allow it.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Frank as Castrello tries to tie him up. Frank has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Castrello uses from the top position. Frank has his foot on Castrello's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Castrello works his way back into a safe position though. Castrello decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Frank, up you get! Castrello rushes Frank and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Frank pulls guard effortlessly. Castrello has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Frank can't keep his opponent in guard - Castrello advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Frank looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Castrello wants to stand but Frank has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Frank actively working from the bottom here. Frank is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Castrello pulls his head out easily. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Frank wants to get back to full guard. Castrello wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jason Frank will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Jason Frank's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Frank swats away the attempt to clinch by Castrello. Castrello throws a low kick but it's checked well by Frank. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Castrello ducks under a wild hook from Frank. A chopping leg kick lands by Castrello. Frank throws a leg kick that misses. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
That's one minute gone in the round. Frank smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Castrello throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Frank. Castrello throws a body kick, spinning off balance and Frank counters with an inside leg kick. Frank tries to work over Castrello's front leg with a kick but Castrello checks it. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Frank.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Castrello walks forward, straight into a front kick from Frank. Frank swings for the body but Castrello moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Frank blocks the body kick.
Frank avoids a kick to the body.
Frank fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Castrello, pushing him back against the cage. Castrello with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Frank decides to pull guard. Frank has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Castrello should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Frank has tightened it up now! Castrello should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jason Frank! Jason Frank is the new light heavyweight champion! Jason Frank looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'Jason Frank, the name you all know and love, is your new NAF Champion. Lucky I didnt have to morph in this fight either.'.
