Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Billy Do! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Canadian Assassin! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Assassin with a poor takedown and Do counters with a straight right hand. Assassin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Do's guard. Assassin throws a big elbow that misses. Assassin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Assassin throws a strike but Do rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Do tries to free his leg and advance position but Assassin is retaining full guard. Assassin is looking for a triangle but Do pushes his legs off easily.
Assassin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Assassin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Do stacks Assassin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Do! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Do landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Assassin is trying to escape the position but Do is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Do trying to control the position but Assassin is working away. Assassin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Assassin tries to bench press Do off him but Do keeps the position. Do is looking to take a break and control but Assassin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Do is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Assassin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Do is working Assassin over with some ground and pound from side control. Assassin is trying to improve his position. Assassin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

This has been an exciting period of action! Assassin is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Assassin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Assassin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Do gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Assassin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Do is aware though and is defending well. Assassin manages to get back to half guard. Do wants to take a breather but Assassin is having none of it. Assassin tries to roll over but Do keeps him under control.

Do got a little sloppy there for a moment and Assassin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Do has managed to get both his arms back between Assassin's legs - danger averted. Do connects with a couple of short punches. Assassin working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Do has passed into half guard!
Assassin looks gassed! Assassin is trying to get back to full guard. Do lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Do is nestled in close to Assassin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Do is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Do slips a nice elbow through Assassin's hands, connecting with Assassin's forehead. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Do lands a nice short elbow.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Do is looking to take a break and control but Assassin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Do looks to score some points with some ground and pound. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Assassin is trying to get back to full guard. Assassin actively working from the bottom here. Do wants to take a breather but Assassin is having none of it. Assassin on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Assassin is rocked! Do lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Assassin! More strikes land and this one is all over! Do jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Billy Do! Billy Do retains his welterweight title! Billy Do decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
