The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Whitte as Melendez shoots in.
Horrible takedown by Melendez or perhaps it was just good defense by Whitte which made him look bad.
Melendez slips under a jab from Whitte.

and Whitte counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Dana Whitte has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damien Melendez.

and Melendez counters with a shoot takedown. Whitte fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Melendez prevents Whitte from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Whitte is controlling Melendez's posture.
Melendez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Whitte wants to sweep but no luck.
Melendez drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Whitte manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Melendez has Whitte in his guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Melendez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Whitte is one step ahead there.

Whitte gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Damien Melendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Whitte. Melendez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Whitte slaps away a takedown attempt from Melendez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Whitte thows a left - swing and a miss!

Whitte misses with a straight right.
Whitte tests Melendez's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Melendez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Whitte connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Whitte stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Whitte wants it to stay on the feet.
Melendez looks gassed!
Melendez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Whitte counters with a nice uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round.

Melendez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Whitte counters with a straight right hand.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Whitte, as that shot connected.
That has opened up Damien Melendez's cut even more.
Whitte stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Melendez shoots in looking for a takedown but Whitte manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Melendez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

and Whitte counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Melendez thinking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Damien Melendez's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Melendez takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Whitte connects with a good right hand that stumbles Melendez. Melendez circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Melendez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Melendez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Melendez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Whitte counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Whitte takes a swing at Melendez's ribcage but misses.
Melendez shoots in for a double leg but Whitte sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The cut above Damien Melendez's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Melendez is breathing heavily.

Whitte drops Melendez with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Melendez looks back up at him and smiles so Whitte waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Whitte cracks Melendez with a good jab.
Melendez is rocked!
Damien Melendez's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Melendez slips under a jab from Whitte.
Whitte lands a big uppercut and Melendez crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Melendez looks OK. Whitte waves Melendez back to his feet!
Melendez is still on wobbly legs! Can Whitte finish him?
Melendez with a poor takedown
and Whitte counters with a right, left combo that wobbles Melendez badly! Whitte follows up with a massive right hook, straight to the bridge of the nose that knocks Melendez out cold! Oh wow, what a finish! Very reminiscent of Koscheck vs Yoshida as Whitte finished him against the cage.
