PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Franz Kaelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maku Hiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Franz Kaelin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maku Hiro!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hiro connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kaelin. Kaelin circles away out of range and recomposes himself.


It looks like Franz Kaelin has been cut.
Kaelin throws a series of punches but Hiro moves out of range.

Hiro forces Kaelin back against the cage and clinches.

Hiro breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kaelin throws a body punch but Hiro moves out of range.
Hiro rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kaelin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kaelin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hiro.
Hiro misses with a jab to the body
and Kaelin counters with a straight right hand.
Hiro slips a straight right by Kaelin.

Kaelin gets caught napping as Hiro dives in and scores a takedown. Kaelin manages to retain guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hiro landing with the ground and pound.

Hiro got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kaelin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hiro has managed to get both his arms back between Kaelin's legs - danger averted.
Hiro is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hiro stands up and waves to Kaelin to follow him.
Kaelin lands with a right hand.

Hiro scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Kaelin is trying to get back to half guard.

Hiro tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hiro has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hiro tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kaelin manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Kaelin trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Hiro manages to pass to mount!
Hiro lands a big elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hiro scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Kaelin?
Hiro is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Kaelin is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hiro lands a big shot there that rocks Kaelin but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Hiro content just to control the position here.
Let's hope that Hiro has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hiro postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kaelin looks a forlorn figure.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kaelin is trying to escape the mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hiro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maku Hiro dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Franz Kaelin's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Some wild striking there from Kaelin.
Kaelin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hiro counters with a straight right hand.
Hiro dodges the punch combination from Kaelin.

Hiro shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hiro seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Hiro is controlling the pace.
Maku Hiro has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hiro in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kaelin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Hiro!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Maku Hiro!
