The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Alyssa Summers and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Pires. No joy for Santiago on that attempt.

Pires rushes Santiago and presses him up against the cage.
Knees in the clinch landing for Santiago.

Pires has clasped his hands together around Santiago's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Pires in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Pires stands up and beckons Santiago to his feet.
Santiago fails to land the takedown.
Santiago stuffs the takedown.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Santiago has managed to clinch.

Pires jumps guard and drags Santiago to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Santiago gets to his feet - Pires follows without any prompting.
Santiago shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pires sprawls well. Pires wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Santiago gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raoul Santiago. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Santiago displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pires.

Santiago circles away from the clinch attempt.

Santiago fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Pires to the ground. Santiago is now in Pires's guard.

Santiago wants to pass the guard but Pires is keeping the position.
Pires is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Pires is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Santiago has his hands clasped together but Pires extends an breaks Santiago's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Pires.
