The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paul scores a takedown into full mount!
LACONA really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Paul gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
LACONA throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Paul.
Paul shoots in and bounces LACONA off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Paul wants to control from the top but LACONA keeps moving.
Paul wants to stand but LACONA is controlling his posture from full guard.

Paul looking to sit in guard and control but LACONA gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
LACONA wants to stand but Paul has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Paul decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Paul really doesn't want to stay on the ground with LACONA. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

LACONA has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Paul is working away from the top position though.
Paul stands up out of the half guard.
LACONA connects with a single shot there.
Paul throws a head kick but LACONA moves out of range.
Paul shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
LACONA is trying desperately to improve position.
LACONA might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Paul moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, LACONA has worked his arm free - good work by LACONA!

Paul swings around for an armbar but LACONA sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Paul's guard.

LACONA tries to stand but Paul is controlling from the bottom.

LACONA postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
LACONA stops Paul from standing up.

LACONA goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

and Paul counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Paul stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
LACONA lands with a nice body punch.

BOOM! Paul connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Paul can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as LACONA is looking to escape.
Paul lands with some strikes.

Paul get's back to his feet.
Paul shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Paul was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
LACONA tries to reverse the position but Paul maintains control.

and Paul decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in LACONA's guard.

Paul is looking to advance position but LACONA has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
