Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shawn Hanson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Finley Stewart! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stewart tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hanson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stewart somewhat. Stewart displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hanson. Stewart tries to close the distance and clinch but Hanson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Stewart fails in his attempt to clinch. Hanson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Stewart is fending him off so far but Hanson persists. Nope, Stewart circles away and we're back to standing. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Stewart. Hanson pushes Stewart up against the cage in a clinch. Hanson breaks from the clinch.
Stewart misses with a head kick.
Hanson swats away the attempt to clinch by Stewart. Hanson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Hanson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shawn Hanson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Stewart fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stewart tries to close the distance and clinch but Hanson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Hanson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Hanson dives in and grabs Stewart's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stewart pushes down on Hanson's head and hops out. Stewart gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hanson to score an easy takedown into full guard. Stewart wants to sweep but no luck. Hanson wants to control from the top but Stewart keeps moving. Stewart looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hanson is one step ahead there. Hanson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stewart is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Hanson has his hands clasped together but Stewart extends an breaks Hanson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Stewart.
