PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Taylor Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Murthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Taylor Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kevin Murthy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Bruno Hogan and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Johnson.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown but Murthy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johnson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Johnson throws the kick towards the body but Murthy avoids it.
Murthy displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johnson.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Taylor Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Murthy.

Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Murthy's waist but Murthy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Taylor Johnson.
Johnson dives in and grabs Murthy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Murthy pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Murthy throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Johnson was covering up waiting for the punch and Murthy finishes the takedown easily into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Johnson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Murthy just stands there and leans against the cage.

Johnson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Murthy uses from the top position.

Murthy is nestled in close to Johnson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Murthy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Kevin Murthy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Murthy connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple.

Taylor Johnson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kevin Murthy is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
