PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Redd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pedro Guerrero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redd's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, We Will Rock You. Guerrero has chosen AC/DC - Back In Black as his entrance music. Pedro Guerrero told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jake Redd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pedro Guerrero!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Redd shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Guerrero as he avoids it easily.

Redd shoots for a double leg takedown but Guerrero sprawls well. He's pushed Redd's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Redd. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Guerrero clinches up with Redd and pushes him back against the cage.

Redd has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Guerrero uses from the top position.

Guerrero is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Guerrero has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Guerrero is looking to stand but Guerrero has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

Guerrero really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Redd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Guerrero closes the distance and clinches.
Redd keeps control of Guerrero as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Redd is just content to waste time from the top position. Guerrero takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Redd is pushing down on Guerrero's leg trying to pass to half guard. Guerrero is fighting to maintain full guard but Redd has managed to sneak the leg through.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Redd lands a nice short elbow.

Redd thows a huge punch but Guerrero dodges it nicely.
Redd uses his free foot to push down on Guerrero's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Guerrero.

Redd lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Redd has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Redd can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Guerrero is looking to escape.

Redd has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Guerrero is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Redd.

Redd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Guerrero can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jake Redd.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Redd, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Jake Redd was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
