Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ray Clancy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carl Marks! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clancy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Marks fails to land the takedown. Clancy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marks's waist but Marks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Clancy off to one side. Marks is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Clancy.
It looks like Carl Marks has been cut. Marks will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ray Clancy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Marks shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Clancy as he jumps to the side. Ray Clancy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carl Marks. Marks takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Clancy moves into the clinch. Marks tries a knee to the head but Clancy blocks it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Clancy working hard to break the clinch. Marks keeps control of Clancy as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Clancy wants to break the clinch but can't.

Marks tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Clancy just stands there and leans against the cage. Marks misses with the head strike.
Marks breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clancy has a takedown stuffed. Marks shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Clancy's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Clancy working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Marks. Marks is looking to work some ground and pound but Clancy has wrist control. Clancy looking for a guillotine here but Marks defends easily.
Clancy is breathing heavily. Marks stands up from guard. Let's bang! Clancy displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Marks. No luck for Clancy with that takedown attempt. Marks shoots in for a double leg but Clancy sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Clancy misses with a series of wild punches.

He's persisting with it as Clancy sprawls well. Clancy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Marks gets slowly back to his feet. Marks leaves Clancy with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Marks shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Clancy as he jumps to the side. Clancy fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marks shoots for a takedown but Clancy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Marks avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Clancy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marks was well out of range. Poor timing from Clancy. Clancy throws a nice looking combination but Marks bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Clancy tries to clinch up. Clancy moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Marks shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Clancy as he avoids it easily. Marks closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Clancy to the mat! Clancy manages to get full guard. Clancy working for a triangle but Marks defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Clancy has momentary wrist control but Marks slips an elbow through the middle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marks lands a couple of digs. Marks content to stall in guard here. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Clancy keeping moving, preventing Marks from controlling successfully.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Clancy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Marks gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Marks throws a big right hand that misses. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Marks throws a big right hand that misses. Marks content to stall in guard here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Carl Marks will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Carl Marks's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Clancy defending against the ground and pound. Marks is putting a hurting on Clancy here, landing some big shots from side control. Marks has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Marks sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Clancy is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Marks wants to lay and pray for a moment but Clancy keeps working. Marks scoring with punches from side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Clancy is working to avoid the ground and pound but Marks connects with a decent elbow. Marks cracks Clancy with a big right hand but Clancy just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
You can see the frustration on Clancy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Clancy pushes Marks away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Marks gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Marks working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Marks wants to control but Clancy is keeping him busy. Marks throwing shots but missing, from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Marks working the head and body with strikes. Clancy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Marks on the ground. Marks in side control lands a decent elbow. Marks wants to lay and pray for a moment but Clancy keeps working. Marks might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Clancy kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Clancy avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Marks. Marks sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Clancy is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Clancy trying to remain calm as Marks controls from the top position. Marks scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Clancy to see if he's OK. Marks is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Clancy has escaped the position, nice work there. Marks is looking to take a break and control but Clancy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Marks misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The strikes coming from Marks are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Clancy tries to escape but Marks is in control. Clancy defending against the ground and pound. Marks scores with a couple of short elbows. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Clancy is not content to let Marks control the position. Marks creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Clancy sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Marks trying to control the action but Clancy is working from the bottom. A control attempt from Clancy but he's now mounted! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Marks looking to isolate an arm here. Clancy doesn't see it coming and as Marks extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Marks!
