Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between George Whissell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kale Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Whissell comes to the cage accompanied by Rose Of Sharon. Cruz has chosen Welcome to the Jungle as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, George Whissell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kale Cruz! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cruz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Whissell is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Cruz is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Cruz looking to control and managing it successfully. Cruz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Whissell can't escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Cruz wants to control the pace but Whissell is squirming around nicely. Whissell is looking to get to half guard. Whissell squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Whissell swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Cruz sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Cruz lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Cruz wants to control the pace but Whissell is squirming around nicely. Cruz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Despite being in the dominant position, Kale Cruz just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Whissell shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Whissell was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Cruz is trying desperately to improve position. Poor strikes thrown by Whissell there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cruz wants to hold on but Whissell pushes him away. Whissell throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Cruz because Whissell loaded up on that one. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Whissell looking to finish Cruz with some ground and pound. This is bad for Cruz! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cruz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Whissell is staying active underneath Cruz, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Whissell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Whissell wants to sweep but Cruz has passed to side control! Cruz trying to control the position but Whissell is working away. Whissell is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Whissell on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Cruz working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Whissell misses with a takedown attempt and Cruz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Whissell won't be happy with that. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cruz takes a little break here. Whissell wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Whissell is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cruz has just dragged him back down to the mat. Whissell is not content to let Cruz control the position. Whissell on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Whissell is trying to work for a sweep but Cruz has mounted him! Cruz looking to control and managing it successfully. Whissell flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
