PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Number One (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mamed Chalidow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Number One!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mamed Chalidow!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chalidow closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. One did well to prevent Chalidow getting side control.
One could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
One trying to control from the bottom.

Chalidow is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. One doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Chalidow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

One looking for submissions off his back.
One might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Chalidow wants to control but One is keeping him busy.
One tries to get to full guard but Chalidow has control of the leg.
Nice strikes from Chalidow there.

One actively working from the bottom here.
Chalidow is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and One reverses the position - he's now on top in Chalidow's guard.

One passes Chalidow's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Chalidow is trying to control but One manages to pass to mount!
One controlling his opponent.
One looking to control but Chalidow is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

One goes for an armbar but Chalidow turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Chalidow.

One seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Chalidow trying to control but One is working from the bottom.

One had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Chalidow defends it easily.
Chalidow slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Chalidow got a little sloppy there for a moment and One has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chalidow has managed to get both his arms back between One's legs - danger averted.
One keeping full guard, as Chalidow tries to pass.
One looking for a sweep. Not yet One, not yet.
Chalidow trying to control the position from guard on top but One is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
One on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if One tries to get out of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mamed Chalidow was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Chalidow fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but One avoids it really well and circles away.
One fails with the takedown

and Chalidow decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in One's guard.

One working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Chalidow has passed into half guard!
One is breathing heavily.
One trying to control but Chalidow postures up.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
One keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Chalidow is keen to just control but One is a slippery customer.

Chalidow seems to be looking for submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
One is refusing to be controlled, as Chalidow sits in half guard.
One is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mamed Chalidow will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Chalidow fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Chalidow throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. One tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Chalidow is in One's guard.

One is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

One isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Chalidow stacks One on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Chalidow!
One is not content to let Chalidow control the position.
Chalidow landing a few strikes.
One tries to control but Chalidow manages to take his back.
One trying to control but not successfully.

One really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Chalidow's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.

One turns into Chalidow and is now in his guard.
Chalidow is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst One is controlling him.
Chalidow is breathing heavily.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
One shoots and misses

and Chalidow holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
One tries for a takedown but Chalidow manages to get underhooks.
One wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Number One. That's going to take a lot out of him.
One drops down looking for an ankle pick but Chalidow pulls his leg out and moves away.

Chalidow shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

One is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chalidow pulls his head out easily.

One tries to get to full guard but Chalidow has control of the leg.
One on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
One keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Chalidow is working for a submission of some sort.

One actively working from the bottom here.

Chalidow passes the guard and advances to mount!
Chalidow is landing with some decent strikes but One is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
One wants to hold on but Chalidow pushes him away.
One regains half guard.
Chalidow seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but One does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chalidow is thwarting One's attempts to control the position.
Chalidow is looking to advance position but One won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mamed Chalidow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


One fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Chalidow tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but One paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Number One is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fight stays on the outside here - Chalidow looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
One misses with a takedown attempt
and Chalidow counters with a nice uppercut.
Chalidow shoots in but no luck this time.

One dives in and scores a takedown into Chalidow's guard.
Chalidow wants to stand but One is controlling the position.

One has gone for a leg lock! Chalidow slips out almost immediately though and dives into One's guard.
One trying to keep a closed guard but Chalidow is proving a slippery customer.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chalidow is working One over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Chalidow wants to control from the top but One keeps moving.
One seems keen to control Chalidow's posture.

One escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chalidow gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Chalidow lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Chalidow is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

One is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chalidow defends well.
Chalidow tries to free his leg and advance position but One is retaining full guard.
Chalidow working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

One looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
One wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chalidow thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

One is working to avoid the ground and pound but Chalidow connects with a decent elbow.
Chalidow lands some shots froms side control.
One gets back to half guard.
One is looking to improve his position.
One is staying active underneath Chalidow, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
One desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Well, if Chalidow is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Chalidow is thwarting One's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
One trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
One is squirming around, avoiding Chalidow's attempts to control the action.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
One tries to reverse the position but Chalidow maintains control.
Number One has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mamed Chalidow is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Mamed Chalidow.
Well Chalidow has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
