PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jon Haws (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renan Barao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Haws comes to the cage accompanied by My Hero. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Renan Barao was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Haws!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Renan Barao!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A swing and a miss from Barao.
Barao throws a chopping leg kick but Haws manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Barao checks a leg kick nicely.
Haws doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Barao counters with a low kick, right behind Haws 's knee.
Barao lands a head shot.
Haws misses the body punch
and Barao counters with an outside leg kick.
Barao circles away from the clinch attempt.
Haws shoots for a takedown but Barao saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Barao avoids a punch combination nicely.

Barao tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Barao scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Barao throws a right and a left that Haws avoids nicely.
Haws uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Barao.
Haws shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Haws. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Haws moves into the clinch.
Haws blocks a body shot from Barao.

Haws is breathing heavily.

Barao breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Haws closes the distance and clinches up with Barao, looking for a takedown. Haws pushes Barao against the cage but Barao circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Renan Barao is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Barao misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Haws gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Barao counters with a thumping low kick.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barao tries to close the distance and clinch but Haws swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Barao throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Barao clinches up with Haws and pushes him back against the cage.

A nice combination there by Barao.
Haws closes this distance looking for a takedown but Barao circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Barao looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Barao tries to close the distance and clinch up but Haws swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Haws avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

and Haws counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Haws.
Barao throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Barao breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's time! Haws's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Haws shoots in looking for a takedown. Barao tries to sprawl out of it but Haws keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Barao manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Haws fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Barao avoids it really well and circles away.

Barao lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Barao goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Barao throws a series of strikes that have Haws backpedaling.
Barao throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Haws throws the kick towards the body but Barao avoids it.
Haws takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Barao lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Haws tries to clinch but Barao moves out of range.
Haws is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Haws fails with the takedown.
A solid leg kick lands there for Barao.

Barao moves into the clinch.
Barao tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Barao misses with a knee to the head.

Haws's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Haws has closed the distance and engaged Barao in a clinch.
Haws has Barao pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Barao manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Haws tries to pull guard but Barao holds him up against the cage and eventually Haws drops back down to his feet.

Renan Barao showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Haws changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barao tries to avoid it but Haws manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barao to the ground. Barao escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Barao has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Barao throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Haws blocks it with crossed arms.
Barao effectively controlling the action here.
Barao on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Barao lands a left hand that snaps the head of Haws backwards.

Haws breaks from the clinch.
Barao tries to clinch but Haws is having none of it.

Barao buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Jon Haws is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Barao lands with a slapping head kick.
Barao takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Barao throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Haws.
Barao throws a leg kick but Haws sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Haws tries to close the distance and clinch up but Barao swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Barao swings wildly with an uppercut but Haws uses good head movement to avoid it.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Haws creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Barao tries to land knees in the clinch but Haws avoids the damage to the body.
Haws is looking to take this one to the mat.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Haws. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Haws tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Barao smiles and moves away.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Barao tries to close the distance and clinch but Haws swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Haws shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Barao but Barao pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Barao stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Barao wants it to stay on the feet.
Jon Haws has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Renan Barao comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Barao has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
