Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Tompkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Summers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tompkins comes to the cage accompanied by Dying Fetus - One Shot, One Kill. David Summers is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Summers!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Tompkins does it's job there.
Summers throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Tompkins drops Summers with a left right combo! Tompkins follows him down to the ground into side control.


It looks like David Summers has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Summers is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Tompkins's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Summers wants to improve his position but Tompkins is controlling well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Tompkins is keen to just control but Summers is a slippery customer.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tompkins connects with a couple of short punches.

Tompkinsis looking to pass into half guard but Summers pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Summers is in guard.
Tompkins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's time! Tompkins's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Tompkins just misses with a punch to the body.
Summers circles away from the clinch attempt.
Summers shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tompkins sprawls well. Tompkins wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Summers gets slowly back to his feet.

Summers gets caught napping as Tompkins dives in and scores a takedown. Summers manages to retain guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tompkins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Summers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Summers pulls Tompkins in close to prevent any damage.
Summers looking for a sweep. Not yet Summers, not yet.

Tompkins postures up in Summers's guard and throws a big left but Summers blocks it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Summers is on top in guard.
Tompkins is adopting a defensive guard.

Summers drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Tompkins manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Summers has Tompkins in his guard.

Summers looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tompkins throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Summers works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Tompkins sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Summers's guard.
Tompkins thows a huge punch but Summers dodges it nicely.
Tompkins wants to take a breather but Summers is having none of it.
Summers is trying to get back to full guard.
Summers is refusing to be controlled, as Tompkins sits in half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Summers trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Summers trying to control but Tompkins is working from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Summers takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Tompkins fails with an attempt to clinch.
Tompkins wants to clinch up but Summers keeps it at a distance.
Tompkins will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Tompkins gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Tompkins regains half guard, as Summers was trying to land strikes.
Tompkins wants to control but Summers is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Steve Tompkins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Tompkins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Summers on the ground.

Summers in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Tompkins tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Summers!
