The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sedes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Laranja avoids it really well and circles away.
Sedes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Laranja sprawls well initially but Sedes persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Laranja trying to hold on to Sedes's head to control him but Sedes postures up.
Sedes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Laranja keeps working.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Laranja is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sedes pulls his head out easily.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Renato Laranja hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Laranja closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sedes circles away.
Sedes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Laranja's waist but Laranja gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sedes off to one side.

and Laranja counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sedes!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Water Sedes. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Laranja wants to finish this one by submission but Sedes is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Laranja.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Laranja working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but Sedes slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.
Laranja looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sedes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Laranja tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sedes swivels and escapes.

Laranja is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Sedes off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
