The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cong connects with a jab. Francisco tries for a takedown but Cong circles away easily and Cong makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. This has been an exciting period of action! Francisco steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cong. A jab from Cong misses. Francisco tries for a takedown but Cong circles away easily and Francisco takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Cong misses with a few strikes there.
Cong throws a hook to the side of Francisco 's head but Francisco sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Cong misses with an uppercut. Francisco saw that one coming.
That's one minute gone in the round. Francisco shoots and misses and Cong counters with a lovely straight right hand! Christian Cong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Francisco . Francisco feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Cong manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Cong sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Francisco regains half guard. Cong prevents Francisco from improving his position. Francisco is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cong's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cong's back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Francisco working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Cong might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Cong manages to reverse the position and now he's in Francisco 's guard. Nice work there by Cong.
Cong controls the pace of the fight for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Francisco can't keep his opponent in guard - Cong advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Francisco looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Francisco is not content to let Cong control the position. Cong is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Francisco moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Francisco is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cong is aware though and is defending well. Francisco throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Cong escapes and throws Francisco 's legs to the side, diving into side control! Cong working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Cong trying to control the action but Francisco is working from the bottom. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Francisco trying to remain calm as Cong controls from the top position. Francisco tries to improve position but can't. Francisco is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Cong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Francisco keeps working. Cong lands an elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Francisco seems a little lost for a moment, as Cong dominates the positioning. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Francisco is looking to reverse the position. Cong is looking to take a break and control but Francisco is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Francisco manages to get back to half guard. Cong winds up and cracks Francisco with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Francisco is not content to let Cong control the position. Francisco gets back to full guard.
Cong stopping the sweep attempt from Francisco . The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Francisco keeping moving, preventing Cong from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Christian Cong dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Francisco gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Cong cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Cong leaves Francisco with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Francisco shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Cong regains full guard. Nicely done. Francisco drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cong manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Francisco has Cong in his guard. Cong passes Francisco 's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cong slows the pace down in half guard. Francisco manages to get to full guard.
Cong is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Cong's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Francisco looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Francisco looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Cong is defending well. Francisco quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Cong has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Francisco celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
