PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Horst Schiller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Igor Filipovich Petruhin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Horst Schiller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Igor Filipovich Petruhin!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Valeri Chadov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Petruhin.
Schiller moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Schiller throws a leg kick but Petruhin moved away.
A clash of legs there as Petruhin blocks the low kick.
Petruhin misses with a takedown attempt - Schiller sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Petruhin shoots in for a double leg but Schiller sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Horst Schiller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Igor Filipovich Petruhin.
Schiller slaps away a takedown attempt from Petruhin, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Petruhin fails to land the takedown.
Petruhin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Schiller's waist but Schiller gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Petruhin off to one side.

Schiller tries to clinch but Petruhin is having none of it.
Schiller lands a slapping body shot.
Schiller lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Schiller tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Petruhin was well out of range. Poor timing from Schiller.
Petruhin slips a straight right by Schiller.
Schiller throws a body kick that misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Schiller enables Petruhin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Schiller manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Schiller has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Petruhin pushes down on Schiller's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Petruhin wants to take a breather but Schiller is having none of it.
Petruhin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Petruhin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Schiller does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Petruhin thows a huge punch but Schiller dodges it nicely.

Schiller is refusing to be controlled, as Petruhin sits in half guard.

Petruhin is working for a kimura but Schiller is defending it quite comfortably.
Schiller avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Petruhin.

Schiller has his hands clasped together around Petruhin's back. He's all about the action.
Petruhin not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Petruhin seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Schiller does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Petruhin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Petruhin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Schiller has managed to free his arm - good work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Petruhin is stalling here. Schiller is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Petruhin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Schiller has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

A close round but Igor Filipovich Petruhin will probably get the nod.

Schiller tries to land a front kick but Petruhin steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Schiller throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Petruhin blocks a low kick nicely.
A chopping leg kick lands by Schiller.
Petruhin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Petruhin throws an overhand right that lands on Schiller's shoulder, as Schiller tries to avoid the shot.
That kick from Schiller tenderised Petruhin's leg. Petruhin is trying to keep his angry face on.

Schiller tried to score with a low kick but Petruhin checks it.
Petruhin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Schiller pinned against the cage. Schiller gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Schiller closes the distance and clinches.
Schiller tries to stall but Petruhin uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Petruhin wants a takedown but no success here.
Horst Schiller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Igor Filipovich Petruhin.
Schiller doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Petruhin blocks the elbow strike.
Petruhin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Schiller pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Petruhin is trying to drag Schiller to the mat but Schiller just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Schiller misses with a hook from the clinch.

Petruhin is trying to pull guard but Schiller has him pressed against the cage.

The referee is keeping an eye on Schiller - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Schiller is trying to maintain a safe position but Petruhin gets an underhook and turns Schiller into the cage.
Petruhin goes for a takedown in the clinch but Schiller prevents it.
Schiller lands a good knee to the midsection. Petruhin won't want to take too many of those.

Schiller lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Schiller is looking to chop away at Petruhin's legs.
Schiller fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Schiller misses with a low kick.
Schiller throws a leg kick but Petruhin sees it coming and checks it nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Petruhin throws a sloppy head kick and Schiller moves out of range easily.
Schiller tries to clinch up but Petruhin circles away and keeps his distance.
Schiller is looking to slow Petruhin down with leg kicks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Horst Schiller dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Schiller tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Petruhin fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Schiller avoids it really well and circles away.
Schiller leaves Petruhin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Petruhin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Petruhin looks for a takedown but Schiller sprawls well.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Schiller. Petruhin shrugs it off though.

Petruhin throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Petruhin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Schiller has closed the distance and engaged Petruhin in a clinch.

Schiller is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Petruhin is defending well for now.

Horst Schiller decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
