Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Omar Avelar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose Dillard! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dillard fails with a takedown attempt. Avelar keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Dillard shoots in for a double leg but Avelar sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Dillard checks a leg kick nicely. Dillard uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Avelar. Avelar is looking to slow Dillard down with leg kicks. Avelar's jab looks to have found its range, popping Dillard under the eye. No luck for Dillard with that takedown attempt. Omar Avelar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Dillard. Avelar looks to score with a jab to the body but Dillard is just out of range. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dillard is defended easily by Avelar. Avelar stuffs the takedown attempt from Dillard. Dillard gets slowly back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Avelar lands a jab-cross combination. Avelar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dillard manages to avoid it. Dillard on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Avelar. Avelar obviously looking to wear him down.
Dillard takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Omar Avelar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Avelar throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Dillard fails with the takedown. Avelar throws a nice inside leg kick. Avelar throws a low kick but Dillard moves out of range easily. Avelar connects with a body shot. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Dillard fails with the takedown and Avelar cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dillard shoots in and drives through. Avelar sprawls well. Avelar defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dillard. Avelar throws a sloppy head kick and Dillard counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Avelar's guard now. Avelar is looking to stand up but Dillard isn't so interested in that idea. Avelar pulls Dillard in close to prevent any damage. Dillard thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Dillard passes Avelar's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Dillard works his way into full mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dillard prevents Avelar from getting the reversal. Dillard seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Avelar is holding on tight.
Avelar is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Dillard locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Avelar is forced to tap!
