Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Juan Gonzalez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gerome Kabasla! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kabasla closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gonzalez circles away. Gonzalez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kabasla sees it coming and avoids it easily. Kabasla walks into a straight right hand from Gonzalez. Kabasla looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gonzalez is fending him off so far but Kabasla persists. Nope, Gonzalez circles away and we're back to standing. Kabasla blocks a jab. Gonzalez leaves Kabasla with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Juan Gonzalez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gerome Kabasla. Gonzalez throws a looping overhand right but Kabasla ducks down to avoid it. Kabasla with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gonzalez to score with a decent uppercut. Kabasla feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gonzalez wants to get back to his feet but Kabasla is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Kabasla trying to control but Gonzalez is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kabasla working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Kabasla trying to control the position from guard on top but Gonzalez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kabasla throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Kabasla distracts Gonzalez with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Kabasla stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gonzalez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Gonzalez keeping moving, preventing Kabasla from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kabasla postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Kabasla working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Kabasla landing with the ground and pound. Kabasla throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Kabasla throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gonzalez works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Gonzalez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kabasla pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gonzalez is keeping the position for now. Gonzalez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kabasla. Gonzalez is breathing heavily. Kabasla trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Kabasla trying to control but Gonzalez is working from the bottom. Kabasla is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Gonzalez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kabasla. Gonzalez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kabasla on the ground. Kabasla trying to control but Gonzalez is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gonzalez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Kabasla working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Kabasla is looking to work some ground and pound but Gonzalez has wrist control. Kabasla throwing strikes but missing. Gonzalez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gonzalez tries to get out of the position. Kabasla lands a couple of elbows. Kabasla sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gonzalez's guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gonzalez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Gonzalez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Kabasla sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gonzalez defending well though. Kabasla takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gerome Kabasla dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Kabasla fails with a takedown attempt. Kabasla is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Gonzalez swings widly with a right hand
and Kabasla counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Kabasla dives in and grabs Gonzalez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gonzalez pushes down on Kabasla's head and hops out. Gonzalez looks to land a left hand but Kabasla moved out of range nicely. Kabasla shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gonzalez as he avoids it easily. Juan Gonzalez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gerome Kabasla. A big right from Gonzalez misses. Kabasla scores with a shot to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round. Kabasla looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gonzalez is fending him off so far but Kabasla persists. Nope, Gonzalez circles away and we're back to standing. Juan Gonzalez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Gonzalez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gonzalez wants it to stay on the feet. Kabasla fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Kabasla ducks under a wild hook from Gonzalez. Gerome Kabasla is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Gonzalez takes the fight into the clinch. Kabasla with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Gonzalez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Gonzalez throws a poor cross that misses
and Kabasla counters with a slapping leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gonzalez darts in and clinches Kabasla up against the cage. Stalling in the clinch from Kabasla.
Kabasla lands with a light punch inside. Kabasla displaying some good clinch control by pressing Gonzalez up against the cage. Kabasla scores with a knee to the head.

Kabasla lands a nice knee to the body. Kabasla misses with a knee to the head. This has been an exciting period of action! Kabasla jumps guard and drags Gonzalez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Gonzalez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Kabasla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gonzalez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kabasla has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gonzalez has managed to get both his arms back between Kabasla's legs - danger averted. Kabasla manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Kabasla dominating with strikes here. Gerome Kabasla has got the better of the ground game so far. Kabasla thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Gonzalez wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Kabasla.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Poor strikes thrown by Kabasla there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
