PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eric Draven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan Clay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eric Draven!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jordan Clay!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Dmitry Maklakov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Draven swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Clay counters with a takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Clay throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Draven stops Clay from passing to mount.

Clay thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Draven wants to control but Clay postures up.
Clay trying to control the position but Draven is working away.

Clay decides to stand up, so the ref orders Draven to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Clay fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Draven avoids it really well and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Draven throws a right hand that Clay ducks under and follows up with a left that Clay also avoids with ease.

Clay looking to score a takedown here. Draven is defending well but Clay drives through and ends up in Draven's guard.
Clay wants to control from the top but Draven keeps moving.

Clay stands and steps away. Draven gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Draven shoots in but no luck this time.
Clay will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Clay tries a head kick but it misses.
Clay shoots in for a takedown but Draven shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Draven is looking to clinch but Clay is avoiding it.
Clay slaps away a takedown attempt from Draven, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Draven shoots in and bounces Clay off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Clay looks gassed!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Draven postures up.
Draven distracts Clay with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Draven landing with the ground and pound.

Clay is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Draven is aware though and is defending well.
Clay controls Draven momentarily but Draven frees himself.
Draven knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Clay on the ground.
Clay has momentary wrist control but Draven slips an elbow through the middle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Draven connects with a couple of short punches.
Draven lands a couple of elbows.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Draven trying to control but Clay is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Draven drops back looking for a leg! Clay is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Clay manages to kick Draven off! Draven jumps back into Clay's guard.

Draven is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Clay is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Clay has escaped and now he's on top!

Clay tries to stand but Draven is controlling from the bottom.
Draven is trying to hold Clay in close to prevent damage but Clay has managed to pass into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Clay shoots in looking for a takedown but Draven manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Clay's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Draven has Clay up against the cage in a clinch.
Draven is trying to push Clay away but Clay has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Draven is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Clay is defending well for now.

Draven pulls guard effortlessly.
Clay trying to control but Draven is working from the bottom.
Draven on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Draven tries to get out of the position.

Draven has a closed guard, preventing Clay from standing up.

Clay avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Draven looking to hit a scissor sweep but Clay is one step ahead there.
Clay trying to control the position from guard on top but Draven is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Draven tries to clinch there but Clay circles away.
Clay uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Clay decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Draven avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Clay.

Clay is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Draven sees it coming and defends easily.
Clay is breathing heavily.
Draven wants to improve his position but Clay is controlling well.
Draven is trying to stand.
Clay wants to take a breather but Draven is having none of it.

Draven keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Clay is trying to control. Draven wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Clay sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Draven defending well though.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Clay tries to pass to full mount but Draven defends it.
Clay thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Draven's head.

Clay keeps control of Draven as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Clay ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Clay no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Draven lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Draven working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Clay's head.
Draven postures up and lands a big shot to Clay's brow.
Draven wants to stand but Clay is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Eric Draven will probably get the nod.
That's time! Draven's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Draven fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Clay looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Draven shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Clay as he jumps to the side.

Draven closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Clay did well to prevent Draven getting side control.

Draven tries to stand and escape but Clay actually recovers to full guard.

Clay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Draven gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Clay takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Draven lands a couple of elbows.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Draven pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Clay is keeping the position for now.
Draven is looking to stand up but Clay won't let him.
Clay seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Clay has momentary wrist control but Draven slips an elbow through the middle.

Clay is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Draven lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Draven tries to stand but Clay is controlling from the bottom.
Draven trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Clay is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Clay looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Draven would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Draven wants to control from the top but Clay keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Draven misses with a kick to the body.
Draven fails with the takedown.
Draven defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Clay.

Draven throws a body kick the misses
and Clay counters with a nice body shot.
Draven goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Draven throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Clay was covering up waiting for the punch and Draven finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Draven wants to pass the guard but Clay is keeping the position.

Clay has his feet on Draven's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Draven clinches up with Clay and pushes him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Draven can't break the clinch.
Draven wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Clay has him pressed against the cage.

Clay escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Clay takes a swing at Draven's ribcage but misses.
Clay circles away from the clinch attempt.
Clay shoots and misses
and Draven counters with a series of strikes. Clay will be more careful next time no doubt.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Draven.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eric Draven showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Draven has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
