Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Bowers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tommy Bowers looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tommy Bowers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, BJ Penn! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn is looking to clinch. Bowers tries to close the distance and clinch but Penn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Penn swats away the attempt to clinch by Bowers. Penn shoots in looking for a takedown. Bowers tries to sprawl out of it but Penn keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bowers manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Bowers takes a swing at Penn's ribcage but misses. Bowers looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Penn blocks the body kick.
Bowers fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Penn tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Bowers manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Bowers lands with an overhand left. Penn fails with a takedown attempt. Bowers lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Penn circles away quickly and effectively.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn keeps the fight on the outside. Penn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Penn thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Bowers has his foot on Penn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penn works his way back into a safe position though. Bowers is breathing heavily. Penn works over Bowers with some ground and pound from guard. Bowers can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Penn controls the pace. Bowers is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Penn is aware though and is defending well. Penn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Penn drops back looking for a leg! Bowers is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bowers manages to kick Penn off! Penn jumps back into Bowers's guard. Bowers keeping full guard, as Penn tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn trying to control but Bowers is working from the bottom. Bowers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Penn is one step ahead there. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Bowers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Penn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Penn cracks Bowers with a solid left hand. Penn wants to pass the guard but Bowers is keeping the position. Penn drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Penn jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Penn throws a big right hand that misses. Penn gets to his feet. Bowers looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Penn tries to clinch but Bowers moves out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn throws a right and a left that Bowers avoids nicely. Bowers bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Penn is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Penn works his way to full guard. Good work. Bowers is looking to stand up but Penn won't let him. Bowers has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Penn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bowers defends it easily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bowers wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bowers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Bowers gets to his feet. Penn looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bowers moves into the clinch. Bowers is trying to drag Penn to the mat but Penn just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Penn gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Bowers.
Penn wants a takedown.
Tommy Bowers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of BJ Penn. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Penn is fighting off a takedown attempt but Bowers is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Penn to the mat. Penn regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Penn looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Bowers is defending well. Penn quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Bowers has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Penn celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
