Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mitch Layden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marlin McCann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCann is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Highway to Hell (AC/DC). Marlin McCann will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 1, fighting out of London, Mitch Layden! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Marlin McCann! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.

He's got his arms around Layden's waist but Layden gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McCann off to one side. Layden fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McCann manages to avoid it. Layden misses with a low kick.
McCann closes the distance and clinches. Layden wants to break free but McCann has control.
McCann looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. McCann working hard to break the clinch. Layden is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but McCann is defending well. Layden is trying to work for a single leg takedown but McCann pulls him back up using the underhooks.

McCann manages to break the clinch.
McCann uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Layden.
McCann slips a straight right by Layden. McCann looks for a takedown but Layden sprawls well. McCann steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Layden. McCann with a lazy takedown attempt and Layden counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Mitch Layden has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marlin McCann. McCann checks a leg kick.

McCann waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Layden. Layden takes a body punch but keeps moving. McCann throws a right and a left that both miss.
McCann gets caught napping as Layden dives in and scores a takedown. McCann manages to retain guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Layden throws an elbow that misses. McCann uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Layden's guard. Nice move by McCann! McCann must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. McCann trying to control but Layden is working from the bottom.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Layden has a closed guard, preventing McCann from standing up.

Layden throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! McCann escapes and throws Layden's legs to the side, diving into side control! Layden tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Marlin McCann will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Layden tries a low kick but McCann avoids it. McCann takes a body punch but keeps moving. McCann moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. A big right from McCann misses. McCann uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Layden. Layden tries for a takedown but McCann sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. McCann slaps away a takedown attempt from Layden, before circling back to the center of the mat. A punch combination from McCann misses. McCann throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Layden counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps McCann thinking.

and Layden counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Layden missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Layden is keen to just control but McCann is a slippery customer.
Layden is trying to work for a kimura but McCann is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McCann has a hand on Layden's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Layden takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Layden lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

It looks like Marlin McCann has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Layden throwing strikes but McCann recovers to half guard. A much better position. McCann is looking to control Layden's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McCann avoid being mounted? Layden thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Layden swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and McCann is now in Layden's guard. A big mistake from Layden there, giving up the dominant position! Layden will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. McCann wants to get up but he can't break Layden's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Layden bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Layden trying to control but McCann is working from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mitch Layden dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Marlin McCann's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Layden needs to keep his hands up - McCann had a free shot at his head there. Layden fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McCann manages to avoid it. McCann throws a looping overhand right but Layden ducks down to avoid it. McCann takes a shot right to the bread basket. Layden avoids a punch combination nicely.

Layden fails with a takedown attempt. McCann throws a lazy uppercut
and Layden counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Layden walks into a stiff left hand from McCann. Mitch Layden is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

McCann dives in and grabs Layden's left leg, looking for a takedown. Layden pushes down on McCann's head and hops out. Layden lands a jab to McCann's midsection. McCann closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
McCann gets a clinch. McCann is trying to break the clinch but Layden is controlling him. Layden wants a takedown.
Layden tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mitch Layden. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Layden is trying to trip McCann. He has hold of a leg but McCann is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Layden persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Layden loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Layden throws a strike but McCann rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. This has been an exciting period of action!
Layden is working an open guard so McCann takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

McCann is trying hard to land a takedown here. Layden sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. McCann misses with a hook
and Layden counters with a lovely straight right hand! Layden throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Layden darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. McCann gets back to full guard.
Layden working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McCann bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Layden's guard. McCann controls from within his opponent's guard. Mitch Layden overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Layden has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McCann can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mitch Layden. I think Layden has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
