Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Martin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Fortin! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Martin swinging wilding here.
Martin fails with a takedown attempt. Martin throws a right and a left that both miss. Fortin clinches up with Martin and pushes him back against the cage. Fortin has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Martin is trying to keep an underhook but Fortin manages to get the takedown into half guard. Fortin is taking a breather. Martin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Martin is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Fortin pulls his head out easily. Fortin stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fortin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Martin looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Martin is trying to get back to full guard. Fortin controlling the action here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Fortin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Fortin misses with a head shot. Martin uses the momentum to regain guard. Martin is looking for a triangle but Fortin pushes his legs off easily.
Martin pushes a forearm under Fortin's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Fortin is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
