PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Danny Mera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aacharappan Qaddam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mera comes to the cage accompanied by The Automatic - Monster. Aacharappan Qaddam told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mera walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Qaddam throws a body punch but Mera moves out of range.
Qaddam lands with a thumping leg kick.

Mera clinches up with Qaddam and pushes him back against the cage.
Qaddam blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Mera has Qaddam pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Mera pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Qaddam tumbling to the mat - Mera dives into Qaddam's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mera accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Mera gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Qaddam swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Mera.
Qaddam throws a lazy right hand but Mera sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Qaddam moves out of range as Mera throws a body kick.
Mera lands a nice leg kick that just misses Qaddam's sensitive parts.
Mera will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Danny Mera. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mera is trying to drag Qaddam to the mat but Qaddam just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Mera gets a takedown into half guard.
Qaddam has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mera is working away from the top position though.
Mera looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Qaddam with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Mera is nestled in close to Qaddam, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Mera seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Qaddam does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mera drops back looking for a leg! Qaddam is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Qaddam manages to kick Mera off! Mera jumps back into Qaddam's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Danny Mera overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
BOOM! Mera connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Qaddam is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mera loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Qaddam scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Mera land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Mera stands and salutes the crowd.
