PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joey Bolten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Villi Kotobalavu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kotobalavu has chosen "Another Body Murdered" by Faith No more & Boo-Yaa Tribe as his entrance music. Villi Kotobalavu told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Joey Bolten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Villi Kotobalavu!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kotobalavu scores with a leg kick.
Bolten tries to clinch up but Kotobalavu circles away and keeps his distance.
Bolten wants to clinch
and Kotobalavu counters with a good low kick that Bolten was not able to check.

It looks like Villi Kotobalavu has been cut.
Bolten unloads a knee to the mid-section. Kotobalavu lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bolten tries to land knees in the clinch but Kotobalavu avoids the damage to the body.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kotobalavu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Villi Kotobalavu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kotobalavu is looking for a kimura but Bolten is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kotobalavu to get the leverage.

Kotobalavu is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bolten has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kotobalavu can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bolten escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kotobalavu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kotobalavu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kotobalavu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

You can see the frustration on Bolten's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kotobalavu is keen to just control but Bolten is a slippery customer.
Bolten moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Bolten utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kotobalavu slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

I've got Kotobalavu winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
