Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Junior Santos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Little Guito! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Paulo Santos and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guito scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Guito is just content to waste time from the top position. Santos takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Guito trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Guito has eaten all the pies! Santos has Guito pulled in close to control his posture. Guito really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Santos. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Guito trying to control the position from guard on top but Santos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Santos seems keen to control Guito's posture. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Little Guito wasn't active enough on the ground. Guito clinches up with Santos and pushes him back against the cage. Guito prevents a takedown attempt there.
Guito decides to pull guard. Santos postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Guito is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Santos, into his guard. Santos is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Guito frees his head nicely. Oh but Santos has switched to an armbar! Guito is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
