Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Neil McKenzie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ivan Gavrilov! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gavrilov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into McKenzie's guard. Gavrilov's corner is telling him to maintain position. McKenzie wants to sweep but no luck. Gavrilov looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Gavrilov gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. McKenzie shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gavrilov pinned against the cage. Gavrilov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. McKenzie darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! McKenzie looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gavrilov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. McKenzie slips a nice elbow through Gavrilov's hands, connecting with Gavrilov's forehead. McKenzie knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gavrilov on the ground. The fighters are battling for position here. Gavrilov manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. McKenzie throws a strike but Gavrilov rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Gavrilov lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. McKenzie looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gavrilov is one step ahead there. Gavrilov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. McKenzie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Gavrilov throwing strikes from guard but McKenzie blocks nicely. McKenzie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gavrilov defends well. Gavrilov is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. McKenzie is looking for a guillotine. That's two minutes gone in the round. Gavrilov pushing down on McKenzie's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. McKenzie is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gavrilov pulls his head out easily. McKenzie is breathing heavily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gavrilov content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. It looks like Gavrilov might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Gavrilov is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Gavrilov in particular looking to stall. Gavrilov is working for a submission of some sort.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McKenzie actively working from the bottom here. Gavrilov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ivan Gavrilov wasn't active enough on the ground. McKenzie darts in trying to clinch and Gavrilov counters with a single leg into guard. McKenzie didn't expect that. Gavrilov working some strikes from top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gavrilov slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gavrilov landing strikes. Gavrilov is staying tight to McKenzie's torso, preventing him from escaping. Gavrilov has hold of McKenzie's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! McKenzie tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Gavrilov cranks the arm and McKenzie screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from McKenzie, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Ivan Gavrilov!
