PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Evan Deavon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mustaffa Spliff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Sam Margolis and James Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deavon blocks a jab.
Deavon bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Spliff lands with a hook. Deavon tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Deavon throws a head kick that Spliff semi-blocks.
Spliff throws a hook to the side of Deavon's head but Deavon sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Deavon moves into the clinch.
Spliff tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Deavon smiles and moves away.
Deavon misses with a two punch combination.
Spliff looks to land a combination but Deavon avoids it well.
Nice defenses there by Spliff.
Spliff fails with a takedown attempt.
Spliff slips a jab from Deavon.
Deavon connects with a crisp jab.

Spliff cracks Deavon with a right hand to the side of the head.
The fighters circling - Deavon throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Deavon moves into range and clinches up with Spliff.

and Deavon counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Deavon uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Spliff.

Deavon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Spliff ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Deavon moves away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Deavon misses the jab.
Spliff rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Deavon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Spliff tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Deavon was well out of range. Poor timing from Spliff.
Spliff dodges the punch combination from Deavon.
Spliff throws a shot to the body.

Deavon clinches up with Spliff and pushes him back against the cage.
Deavon scores with a shot to the side of Spliff's head.
Spliff misses with a hook from the clinch.
Deavon goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Deavon lands with a left to the head.
Spliff lands a nice uppercut.

Spliff tries to break the clinch but Deavon is controlling the position.
Deavon swings wildly with an uppercut but Spliff uses good head movement to avoid it.
Deavon lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Deavon throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Spliff blocks it with crossed arms.

Spliff has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Deavon uses from the top position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Deavon is looking to take a break and control but Spliff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Evan Deavon will probably get the nod.
