PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Floppy McPoppins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pencil Neck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Neck comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Deep Purple - Bad Attitude kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Floppy McPoppins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pencil Neck!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McPoppins fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Neck to the ground. McPoppins is now in Neck's guard.
McPoppins controlling from the top position.
McPoppins trying to control but Neck is working from the bottom.
Neck wants to get back to his feet but McPoppins is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Floppy McPoppins just wasn't active enough.
McPoppins defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Neck.
Neck throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McPoppins's waist but McPoppins gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Neck off to one side.
Neck fails to land the takedown.
Floppy McPoppins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pencil Neck.

Neck throws a series of punches but McPoppins moves out of range.

McPoppins gets a takedown into half guard.
Neck is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of McPoppins's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take McPoppins's back!
McPoppins looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Neck is striking well from the back but McPoppins escapes and manages to control the positon and works his way to half guard. A much better position - the crisis is over for the time being.
Neck wants to lay and pray for a moment but McPoppins keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McPoppins blocking the ground and pound attempt from Neck.
Neck thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McPoppins's head.
McPoppins is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Neck scores with a couple of nice shots.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Neck connects with a nice short shot to McPoppins's temple.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Neck stalling away here and it's allowed McPoppins to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Neck trying to control the position from guard on top but McPoppins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McPoppins manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
A nice elbow there by McPoppins.
Neck is bucking up trying to escape but McPoppins cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
McPoppins prevents Neck from getting the reversal.
Neck wants to control but McPoppins is having none of it.
McPoppins looking to finish Neck with some ground and pound. This is bad for Neck!

McPoppins is landing with some decent strikes but Neck is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McPoppins putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Neck has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Neck is squirming around, avoiding McPoppins's attempts to control the action.

Neck somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Neck throws a looping overhand right but McPoppins ducks down to avoid it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

McPoppins drives through with a takedown into Neck's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Neck tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Floppy McPoppins dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



McPoppins throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Neck tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. McPoppins is in Neck's guard.

Neck looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! McPoppins has picked Neck up and slammed him! Neck can't keep hold of the triangle and McPoppins manages to pass to side control!

McPoppins goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Neck rolls with the submission and now he's on top in McPoppins's guard! Nice work there by Neck!

Neck throws a strike but McPoppins rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

McPoppins working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Neck lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for McPoppins!

Neck is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. McPoppins can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Neck tries to control but McPoppins wriggling away.

Neck is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But McPoppins has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from McPoppins!

Neck is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
McPoppins thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Neck's head.

Neck is striking from the bottom but McPoppins uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, McPoppins cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Floppy McPoppins will probably get the nod.
That's time! McPoppins's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

McPoppins looking to control but Neck is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

McPoppins stands up and beckons Neck to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McPoppins bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Floppy McPoppins is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

McPoppins shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Neck napping and manages to drive through into side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
Floppy McPoppins showed his dominance in that final round.
Well McPoppins has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Floppy McPoppins rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
