PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Derek Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Waters comes to the cage accompanied by Hip Hop. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Derek Waters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Alex Cole!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waters swinging wildly here.
Waters uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.


It looks like Alex Cole has been cut.
Waters throws a big shot that misses.
Waters looks for the body kick but Cole saw that one coming.
Waters displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cole.
Waters throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Cole counters with a left and a right that stings Waters.
Waters throws a big shot that misses.
Waters throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Waters throws a hook to the side of Cole's head but Cole sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
No luck for Cole with that takedown attempt.
Waters smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Waters fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cole manages to avoid it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waters throws a lazy uppercut

so Cole counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Waters keeping moving, preventing Cole from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Waters trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Cole working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Cole in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cole must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cole with a flurry of punches that miss.

Cole is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Waters is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Waters has escaped and now he's on top!
Waters is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Derek Waters has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Waters throws a combination that misses

and Cole counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cole has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Waters avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Derek Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Cole.
Cole wants a takedown.
Waters is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Waters is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Cole is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Waters is defending well.
Cole keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Waters's efforts to push away.
Waters is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Cole is looking to take this one to the mat.

Cole keeps control of Waters as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Cole gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Waters is pressing down on Cole's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cole loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Waters has control of Cole's left arm, preventing Cole from doing any damage.
Waters's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Derek Waters has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
A telegraphed right hand from Waters misses the target.
Derek Waters seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Waters, as that shot connected.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Waters leaves Cole with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Waters throws a hook to the side of Cole's head but Cole sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cole connects with a looping right hand.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Waters throws a poor cross that misses

and Cole counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Waters is holding on to half guard well.
Cole tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Derek Waters will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Alex Cole's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Cole uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Waters.
Cole looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Cole keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Waters lands with a hook. Cole tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Waters connects with a single shot there.


Cole is rocked!
Cole misses with a double jab.
Cole is still on wobbly legs! Can Waters finish him?

Waters cracks Cole with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Cole looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Waters finish him?


That has opened up Alex Cole's cut even more.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A left and a right from Cole both land. Nice combination.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cole bobbing and weaving nicely... He's ducked under a jab and ducks again but ooooooh! Waters comes at him with an uppercut from hell! Cole falls to the canvas, unconscious! This one is all over! Oh man, looking at the replay that was right on the button! Cole was out before he hit the floor!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Derek Waters!
A very excited looking Derek Waters made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
