Cote comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Fort minor: Remember the name kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Patrick Whales!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Cote!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cote throws a right and a left that Whales avoids nicely.
Whales shoots in looking for a takedown but Cote manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Whales's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Whales throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cote sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Nice takedown defense from Cote. No joy for Whales on that attempt.
Cote fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Patrick Whales seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Whales clinches up with Cote and pushes him back against the cage.
Cote is looking to take this one to the mat.

Whales gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cote avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Whales.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whales controlling the pace.
Whales wants to free his trapped foot but Cote is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Cote is trying to stand up here but Whales is controlling him well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Whales tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cote knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Whales missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Whales stops Cote from getting back to his feet.
Whales wants to take a breather but Cote is having none of it.
Whales throwing shots but Cote is blocking nicely.
Whales has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Whales passes to full mount!
Whales lands a nice shot to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Whales connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Whales lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Whales lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Cote hang on?


Cote is rocked!
Whales postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Cote badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Whales around the waist but Whales pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Whales is the winner by TKO! Whales jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Patrick Whales!
