PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Altair Tuner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lukas Gruber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tuner's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, snowgoons - the hatred. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Altair Tuner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lukas Gruber!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tuner tries to clinch but Gruber moves away

and Gruber holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Tuner tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Gruber tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Tuner's elbow.
Tuner is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Tuner is trying to break the clinch but Gruber is controlling him.

Gruber manages to break the clinch.
Gruber has his takedown stuffed
and Tuner counters with a one-two to the body.
Tuner shoots in looking for a takedown. Gruber tries to sprawl out of it but Tuner keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gruber manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gruber shoots for a takedown but Tuner saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gruber misses with a takedown attempt - Tuner sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Altair Tuner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lukas Gruber.
Tuner tries to clinch but Gruber moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tuner delivers a nice body kick.
Gruber looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Tuner gets caught flat footed, as Gruber shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Gruber looks gassed!

Gruber gets to his feet - Tuner follows without any prompting.

Tuner shoots in and gets a takedown into Gruber's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tuner postures up in Gruber's guard and throws a big left but Gruber blocks it.

Gruber is working an open guard so Tuner takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Tuner tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A head kick from Tuner lands but Gruber takes it in his stride.
Tuner misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Gruber closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tuner manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Tuner fails with a takedown attempt.

Tuner tries to clinch but Gruber is having none of it.

A nice combination there by Tuner.
Tuner throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Gruber darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tuner wants to improve his position but Gruber is controlling well.
Gruber controlling the pace.
The fighters are battling for position here. Tuner manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Gruber is stalling in the full guard.
Gruber prevents Tuner from getting back to his feet.
Gruber slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Lukas Gruber wasn't active enough on the ground.

Gruber closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Tuner did well to prevent Gruber getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gruber is pressing down on Tuner's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tuner is holding on for now.
Gruber slows the pace down in half guard.
Tuner is refusing to be controlled, as Gruber sits in half guard.

Gruber is trying to work for a kimura but Tuner is defending well.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Altair Tuner will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Tuner shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gruber as he avoids it easily.
Gruber shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tuner defends it nicely.
Tuner throws a low kick, looking for Gruber's leg but Gruber calmly moves out of range.
Gruber blocks a head kick by Tuner.
A right-left combo lands from Tuner.

Gruber feints and as Tuner raises his hands in defense, Gruber changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tuner pulls Gruber in to control the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gruber scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Gruber postures up and lands a big shot to Tuner's brow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tuner is looking to stand up but Gruber isn't so interested in that idea.
Gruber connects with a couple of short punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gruber content to stall in guard here.

Gruber decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Tuner, up you get!

Gruber closes the distance and pushes Tuner back into the cage.
Gruber is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Tuner pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Gruber tightens his grip and picks Tuner up, before dumping him to the ground. Tuner manages to land in guard.
Gruber pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tuner is keeping the position for now.
Gruber passes into half guard.
Tuner is looking for a sweep. Gruber is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Tuner is working hard here to advance position.
Gruber looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Let's hope that Gruber has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Lukas Gruber.
Gruber shoots in but no luck this time.
Altair Tuner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lukas Gruber.
Gruber tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tuner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gruber somewhat.
Altair Tuner is winning the standup battle so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tuner bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gruber's head.
Tuner shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gruber sprawls well. Gruber wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Tuner gets slowly back to his feet.
Tuner tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Gruber counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Tuner is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gruber dives into side control.
Gruber remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Gruber tries to move into full mount but can't pass Tuner's legs.
Tuner can't do much from the bottom here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gruber is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tuner has escaped the position, nice work there.
Lukas Gruber has got the better of the ground game so far.
An elbow from Gruber crashes against the mat.
Gruber wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tuner keeps working.
Gruber takes a little break here. Tuner wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tuner is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lukas Gruber showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Gruber closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Tuner to the mat! Tuner manages to get full guard.
Gruber postures up.
Gruber stays in close to Tuner's body and controls the position.

Tuner looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gruber pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Tuner is keeping the position for now.
Tuner wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Gruber manages to pass to side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gruber with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Tuner wants to get back to full guard.
Gruber lands with a punch from half guard.
Tuner is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gruber scores with a couple of nice shots.
Tuner is trying to stand.
Gruber working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Gruber is nestled in close to Tuner, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Gruber working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Gruber has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Gruber takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gruber tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Tuner keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Gruber has hold of Tuner's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Tuner manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Gruber goes for an armbar but Tuner turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Tuner.

Lukas Gruber comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gruber has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
