Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Sanders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rod Melendez!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melendez stalks Sanders and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sanders's face. Sanders staggers backwards, shaken.
Melendez slips under a jab.
Melendez throws a series of punches but Sanders moves out of range.
Melendez wants to clinch up but Sanders keeps it at a distance.
Melendez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Melendez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Sanders counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Sanders slows the pace down in half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sanders takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sanders lands a nice short elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanders drops an elbow to the side of Melendez's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sanders lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Sanders takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Sanders drops an elbow to the side of Melendez's head.
Sanders thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Sanders is looking for a kimura here.
Melendez wants to control but Sanders is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sanders lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Sanders looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Sanders frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Melendez taking shots to the head.


Melendez is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Sanders! Melendez is hurt baaadly! Sanders is firing away with more strikes - Melendez is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michael Sanders!
