Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Connor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, William Shimazu! The judges for this bout are , and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Connor throws a low kick, looking for Shimazu's leg but Shimazu calmly moves out of range. A slapping body kick lands there for Connor. Shimazu throws a head kick that misses. Connor tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shimazu paws at him with a jab and circles away. Connor takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Connor misses with a double jab
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Shimazu misses with a kick to the body.
Shimazu on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Connor. Connor obviously looking to wear him down.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Connor clinches. Shimazu jumps guard but Connor stands there with Shimazu around his waist. Shimazu gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Connor lands a right hand that snaps the head of Shimazu backwards.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shimazu tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Connor can't break the clinch.
Shimazu's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Connor is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Shimazu makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. A short right hand to the side of the head by Connor. Shimazu is struggling to control the position. Connor escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Shimazu looks for the body kick but Connor saw that one coming. Connor defending well as Shimazu loads up on a big left hand. Connor has taken the fight to the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shimazu is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Shimazu is looking to control Connor's arms but Connor gets an underhook and turns him. Now Shimazu has his back to the cage. Connor looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Shimazu tries to pull guard but Connor holds him up against the cage and eventually Shimazu drops back down to his feet.
John Connor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Shimazu. Connor tries to break free but Shimazu pushes him back against the cage. Connor keeps control of Shimazu as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Connor stalls. Shimazu swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Shimazu tries a body shot but Connor blocks it.
Connor is trying to break free. A bit of stalling here from Connor.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Shimazu prevents Connor from breaking the clinch. Shimazu is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Shimazu tries to throw a body punch but Connor avoids it by throwing Shimazu back against the cage. Shimazu will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Connor up against the cage. Connor manages to break the clinch.
Connor cracks Shimazu with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Oooooh!!! Connor has knocked Shimazu down with a huge combo! Connor steps away and waves a wobbly Shimazu back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
It looks like William Shimazu has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Connor throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shimazu.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shimazu throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Shimazu throws a half hearted mid kick. Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Connor! Shimazu is out on his feet! Connor rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Shimazu is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Shimazu is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Connor!
