PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rogers comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Warning kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bruce Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogers throws a series of punches but Davis avoids them all with ease.
Rogers swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rogers shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Davis pinned against the cage. Davis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Davis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rogers sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Davis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rogers looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Davis is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rogers.

Rogers moves into the clinch successfully.
Davis creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Davis jumps guard but Rogers turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Davis closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rogers did well to prevent Davis getting side control.
Davis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Davis in particular looking to stall.
Rogers slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Rogers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Davis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rogers wants to stand and escape but Davis is having none of it.
Rogers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Davis's guard.
Rogers in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Davis keeping moving, preventing Rogers from controlling successfully.

Rogers is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Davis throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Rogers with a flurry of punches that miss.
Davis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rogers's guard.
Davis tries to free his leg and advance position but Rogers is retaining full guard.
Rogers is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Rogers has his foot on Davis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Davis works his way back into a safe position though.
Rogers looks gassed!

Rogers is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davis is aware though and is defending well.
Davis controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Davis sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rogers's guard.

Rogers trying to hold on to Davis's head to control him but Davis postures up.
Davis seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Rogers is trying to stand up here but Davis is controlling him well.
Rogers is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Davis passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Rogers!

Davis looking to control but Rogers is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Davis controlling the position easily from mount.
Rogers throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Davis avoids the attempt from Rogers to control.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bruce Davis will probably get the nod.

Davis has Rogers up against the cage in a clinch.

Davis tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Rogers avoids it.
Davis is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Rogers is defending well.

Davis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rogers misses with a two punch combination.
Rogers fails to land with a series of punches.
Davis fails to land the takedown.
Rogers throws a right hand that Davis ducks under and follows up with a left that Davis also avoids with ease.
Rogers fails with a takedown attempt.
Rogers shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Davis as he avoids it easily.
Rogers is breathing heavily.

Davis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rogers shoots in and drives through. Davis sprawls well.
Bruce Davis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Rogers.
Rogers tries to close the distance and clinch up but Davis swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Davis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Davis wants to take a breather but Rogers is having none of it.
Rogers is trying to stand.
Rogers is looking to control Davis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rogers avoid being mounted?
Davis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rogers keeps working.
Rogers pushes Davis off looking to stand but Davis dives back in and keeps control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Davis lands with a punch from half guard.
Davis is taking a breather. Rogers says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Davis looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Davis decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Davis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rogers thows a left - swing and a miss!
Davis lands with a kick to the temple. Rogers shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Rogers shoots in but Davis avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Davis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Davis is looking to clinch.

Rogers gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Davis to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Rogers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Davis defends it easily.

Rogers looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Davis slips nicely into half guard.
Davis stalling.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Rogers is trying to maintain the position but Davis is very close to passing his half guard.
Bruce Davis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Rogers wants to improve his position but Davis is controlling well.
Rogers wants to get back to his feet.
Davis perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

We're going to have a standup here because Bruce Davis wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Rogers looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rogers stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rogers wants it to stay on the feet.
Rogers throws a right and a left that both miss.

Davis misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Rogers.
Rogers throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.

Bruce Davis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice takedown defense from Davis. No joy for Rogers on that attempt.
Rogers throws a hook to the side of Davis's head but Davis sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Chris Rogers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rogers swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Davis takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Davis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Rogers's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Rogers is looking to get to half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Bruce Davis just wasn't active enough.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bruce Davis has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Rogers scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Chris Rogers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bruce Davis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Rogers feints a jab promting Davis to slip. Rogers then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Davis slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Davis looks for a takedown but Rogers sprawls well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bruce Davis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Davis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
