Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Donnie Badge! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brian McGuire! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Badge fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McGuire manages to avoid it. McGuire shoots for a double leg takedown but Badge sprawls well. He's pushed McGuire's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Badge lands a two punch combo.
Badge moves in looking to clinch but McGuire pushes him off. Badge looks to land a body kick but McGuire moved away. Badge misses with a hook. Badge takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McGuire cracks Badge with an uppercut from hell and Badge crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of McGuire's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Badge is rocked!
It looks like Donnie Badge has been cut. McGuire stops Badge from standing up. McGuire tries to free his leg and advance position but Badge is retaining full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Badge looking for a sweep. Not yet Badge, not yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Badge keeping full guard, as McGuire tries to pass. McGuire engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. McGuire thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. McGuire looking to pass the guard. McGuire trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Badge manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Badge wants to stand but McGuire has a closed guard, so he can't escape. McGuire looking to hit a scissor sweep but Badge is one step ahead there. Badge is looking to stand up but McGuire won't let him. McGuire wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. McGuire trying to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Brian McGuire was stalling too much, according to the referee. McGuire fails to land the takedown. A good leg kick by McGuire. A jab from Badge misses. Badge shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. McGuire is trying to maintain the position but Badge is very close to passing his half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McGuire moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. McGuire looking for a sweep. Not yet McGuire, not yet. Badge will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Badge tries to stand but McGuire is controlling from the bottom. McGuire can't keep his opponent in guard - Badge advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. McGuire is looking for a sweep. Badge is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! McGuire is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. McGuire gets full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian McGuire dominated that round. The cut man is working on Donnie Badge's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Badge looks to score with a jab to the body but McGuire is just out of range. McGuire has a takedown stuffed. Brian McGuire seems to be getting the better of the standup. Badge lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McGuire circles away quickly and effectively. Badge digs a good hook to McGuire's body.
McGuire checks a leg kick. A looping hook to the body misses from Badge. McGuire does a little dance to reset his feet. McGuire stuffs the takedown attempt from Badge. Badge gets slowly back to his feet. McGuire fails with the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGuire shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Badge counters with a one-two to the body.
It looks like Brian McGuire has been cut. Donnie Badge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian McGuire. McGuire is trying hard to land a takedown here. Badge sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Badge tries to close the distance and clinch but McGuire swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Badge misses with a kick to the body.
Badge throws a nice looking combination but McGuire bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Badge tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. McGuire shoots in for a takedown but Badge shows good takedown defense. Badge throws a body kick the misses letting McGuire counter with a right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McGuire fails with a takedown attempt. McGuire avoids the body shot from Badge.
Badge shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McGuire but McGuire pushes him off and we're back to square one. Donnie Badge is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! McGuire's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and McGuire duly obliges. Badge is looking to wear down McGuire with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Badge throws a sloppy head kick and McGuire moves out of range easily. McGuire scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGuire misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Donnie Badge seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice defenses there by Badge. Badge misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McGuire.
McGuire on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Badge looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Badge avoids the body shot from McGuire.
Badge slaps away a takedown attempt from McGuire, before circling back to the center of the mat. Badge swings away with a body shot that misses
and McGuire makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Badge throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck McGuire on the side of the head. McGuire changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Badge tries to avoid it but McGuire manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Badge to the ground. Badge escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. McGuire shoots in and drives through. Badge sprawls well. Badge fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
McGuire dives in and grabs Badge's left leg, looking for a takedown. Badge pushes down on McGuire's head and hops out. McGuire shoots in looking for a takedown. Badge tries to sprawl out of it but McGuire keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Badge manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Badge pulls out of a head kick attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian McGuire showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Badge shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McGuire as he jumps to the side. Badge throws a right hand that McGuire ducks under and follows up with a left that McGuire also avoids with ease. Badge connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. McGuire scores with a nice strike. McGuire throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Badge pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McGuire fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Badge sprawls well initially but McGuire persists and gets the takedown into half guard. McGuire controlling the action here. McGuire is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Badge has managed to free his arm - good work. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGuire wants to control but Badge is keeping him busy. McGuire is working for a kimura but Badge is defending it quite comfortably.

McGuire is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Badge! McGuire looking to control but Badge is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Badge regains half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGuire is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Badge defends it well. McGuire is looking for a kimura here.
McGuire throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Badge to regain full guard. Badge keeping full guard, as McGuire tries to pass.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McGuire wants to control from the top but Badge keeps moving. Badge wants to stand but McGuire is controlling the position. McGuire content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. McGuire pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Badge is keeping the position for now. McGuire trying to control the position from guard on top but Badge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Badge is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Donnie Badge has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! McGuire trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
And that's the end of the fight! Brian McGuire comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well McGuire has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
