PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hakeem Nicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karo Parisyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nicks comes into the arena with You Suck blaring out of the sound system. Karo Parisyan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hakeem Nicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Karo Parisyan!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parisyan tries to close the distance and clinch but Nicks swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Nicks has closed the distance and engaged Parisyan in a clinch.
Knees to the body from Parisyan.

Nicks is trying to trip Parisyan. He has hold of a leg but Parisyan is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Nicks persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Nicks controlling from the top position.
Nicks slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Parisyan is looking to reverse the position.
Nicks grinds an elbow into Parisyan's temple.
Nicks in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Nicks tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Nicks has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Nicks has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nicks throws a low kick but it's checked well by Parisyan.
The fight stays on the outside here - Parisyan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Nicks counters with a single leg into guard. Parisyan didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nicks gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Nicks avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Nicks scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nicks connects with a nice short shot to Parisyan's temple.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nicks is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Parisyan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nicks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nicks winds up and cracks Parisyan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Nicks takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Nicks lands with a punch from half guard.
Nicks stalling.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Nicks lands a nice short elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nicks is controlling the pace.
Nicks is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Parisyan!
Nicks controlling the position easily from mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nicks's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Nicks is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Parisyan's half guard.
Nicks prevents Parisyan from improving his position.
Nicks takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nicks looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Parisyan is trying to control but can't.
Parisyan tries to kick Nicks off but Nicks keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Hakeem Nicks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nicks performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Parisyan is trying to stand up here but Nicks is controlling him well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hakeem Nicks has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Parisyan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hakeem Nicks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Nicks closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Parisyan is breathing heavily.
Nicks controls the position.

Nicks is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Parisyan looks calm but he's in trouble here. Nicks gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Parisyan is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Nicks lets go of the hold and Parisyan can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hakeem Nicks!
A very excited looking Hakeem Nicks made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
