PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolaos Demetriou (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Demetriou has chosen Boom - POD as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nikolaos Demetriou!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Russell Pearce and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jacobs shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Demetriou is trying to defend but Jacobs finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jacobs content to control rather than advance.
Jacobs slips a nice elbow through Demetriou's hands, connecting with Demetriou's forehead.
Jacobs performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Jacobs seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Demetriou for as long as he can get away with.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Demetriou can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Brandon Jacobs wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Demetriou takes the fight into the clinch.

Jacobs is fighting off a takedown attempt but Demetriou is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Jacobs to the mat. Jacobs regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jacobs trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Jacobs looking to hit a scissor sweep but Demetriou is one step ahead there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Demetriou postures up.
Demetriou won't allow Jacobs to sweep him here.
Demetriou throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jacobs works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Jacobs has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Demetriou can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Demetriou working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Demetriou scoring with punches to the head and body.

Demetriou is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Jacobs has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Demetriou is looking to defend but Jacobs has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Demetriou! Jacobs pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Demetriou taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Brandon Jacobs!
