Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robin Padilla!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Hank Rhodes!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Paul Tew and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Padilla shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rhodes pinned against the cage. Rhodes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Padilla's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Rhodes connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Padilla scrambles back to his feet.

Rhodes gets caught flat footed, as Padilla shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Rhodes keeping moving, preventing Padilla from controlling successfully.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Padilla throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rhodes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rhodes wants to stand and escape but Padilla is having none of it.
Padilla has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Padilla throws a big elbow that misses.
Padilla trying to control but Rhodes is working from the bottom.
Padilla is looking to work some ground and pound but Rhodes has wrist control.
Padilla wants to pass the guard but Rhodes is keeping the position.
Padilla working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Padilla trying to control the position from guard on top but Rhodes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Padilla postures up in Rhodes's guard and throws a big left but Rhodes blocks it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Padilla won't allow Rhodes to get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rhodes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Rhodes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Padilla wants to pass the guard but Rhodes is keeping the position.
Rhodes working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Padilla.
Padilla pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rhodes is keeping the position for now.
Rhodes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Padilla postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rhodes wants to get back to his feet but Padilla passes into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Padilla prevents Rhodes from standing back up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Padilla connects with a nice short shot to Rhodes's temple.
Padilla wants to take a breather but Rhodes is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Padilla is nestled in close to Rhodes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Padilla thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rhodes's head.
Rhodes scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Padilla manages to mount him!

Padilla looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Rhodes squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

Rhodes is trying to stand.

Padilla is in the full mount, landing strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Padilla is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rhodes can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Padilla tries to control but Rhodes wriggling away.
Padilla is landing with some decent strikes but Rhodes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Rhodes takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.


Rhodes is rocked!
Padilla lands a nice shot to the head.
Rhodes is still in real trouble! Can Padilla finish him?
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rhodes is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Rhodes looks gassed!
Padilla content just to control the position here.
Rhodes really wants to buck Padilla off and get back to his feet.
Padilla unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Rhodes wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Padilla celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Robin Padilla!
Robin Padilla retains his light heavyweight title!
An out of breath and clearly excited Robin Padilla thanked 1337 ANZAC for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
