Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hessu Hopo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rey Destroyer! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Destroyer gets a double leg takedown into Hopo's guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Hopo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Hopo prevents Destroyer from improving his position. Hopo is controlling the pace.
Destroyer is looking for a sweep. Hopo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Still in half guard, Hopo seems content to control. Destroyer works his way to full guard. Good work. Destroyer controls Hopo momentarily but Hopo frees himself. Hopo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. This has been an exciting period of action! Hopo looking to sit in guard and control but Destroyer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hopo looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Destroyer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Hopo has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Hopo is looking to stand up but Destroyer isn't so interested in that idea. Hopo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Destroyer manages to get himself to full guard.
Hopo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Destroyer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hopo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Hopo advances position into side control! Destroyer tries to strike but it doesn't land. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Destroyer can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Destroyer tries to buck Hopo off but Hopo is having none of it. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Destroyer wants to control but Hopo postures up. Hopo scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Destroyer to see if he's OK. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hopo taking a breather here. Hopo working the ground and pound.
It looks like Rey Destroyer has been cut. Hopo creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
That has opened up Rey Destroyer's cut even more. Hopo working the head with strikes.
The cut above Rey Destroyer's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Rey Destroyer's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
