Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maurício Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rua has chosen RZA - Samurai Theme as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua is looking to land body kicks.
Santos tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Rua lands with a nice body punch.
Santos takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Nice takedown defense from Rua. No joy for Santos on that attempt.
Santos tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Rua connects with the punch.
Rua ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Rua scores with a one two! Santos had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Santos closes the distance and clinches up with Rua, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes Rua against the cage but Rua circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Santos ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rua moves away.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Santos. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rua digs a good body shot into Santos's ribs.
Santos with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Rua to score with a decent uppercut.
Maurício Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Santos takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Rua counters with a nice low kick that buckles Santos's knee momentarily.

Rua thuds his shin into the meat of Santos's side.

Rua fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Santos has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Oh Santos is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

and Rua counters with a low kick, right behind Santos 's knee.
Santos seems to have got his legs back now.
Rua darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Santos gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Rua fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Santos takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Santos walks into a jab.
Santos takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Santos is looking to clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Santos dives in and grabs Rua's left leg, looking for a takedown. Rua pushes down on Santos's head and hops out.
Rua's jab looks to have found its range, popping Santos under the eye.
Rua lands a nice hook to Santos's body. Santos takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Rua lands with a straight right. Santos didn't see that one coming.

Santos is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rua sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rua keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rua wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Rua lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Rua thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Santos if he has to take too many more of those.
Santos takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
A head kick from Rua lands but Santos takes it in his stride.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rua throws a good cross that connects.
Rua throws a quick inside leg kick.
Santos takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Matt Santos's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Santos is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Whack! Rua lands a heavy head kick that drops Santos. The ref tackles Rua to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Santos was done.
