Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shane Miyagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miyagi comes to the cage accompanied by Ready for war. Hicks has chosen It's Amazing as his entrance music. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shane Miyagi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derrick Hicks!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hicks feints and as Miyagi raises his hands in defense, Hicks changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Hicks thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Miyagi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hicks throws a big right hand that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hicks stands and throws Miyagi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Miyagi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hicks has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Miyagi is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Miyagi tries to roll over but Hicks keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hicks takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Miyagi throws a series of punches but Hicks avoids them all with ease.
Hicks slips under a jab.
Miyagi's corner calls for a 1-2. Miyagi obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Miyagi bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Miyagi lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Miyagi misses with a series of wild punches.
No luck for Hicks with that takedown attempt.
No joy there for Miyagi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Hicks scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Hicks wants to pass to mount but Miyagi is defending the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Miyagi misses with a few strikes there.

Miyagi is breathing heavily.
Miyagi lands with a nice combination. Hicks backs away looking to recover.
Hicks closes the distance and clinches up with Miyagi, looking for a takedown. Hicks pushes Miyagi against the cage but Miyagi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hicks tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Miyagi swivels and escapes.
Shane Miyagi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derrick Hicks.

Miyagi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hicks tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Miyagi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Miyagi passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Hicks!
Hicks manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Hicks is trying to control but can't.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Miyagi connects with a nice short shot to Hicks's temple.
Hicks has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miyagi is working away from the top position though.
Hicks manages to get to full guard.

Hicks is looking for a triangle here but Miyagi uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Hicks is looking for a sweep.
Hicks is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Miyagi fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Miyagi throws an elbow but Hicks slips to the side and avoids it well.
Hicks is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Miyagi's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Hicks looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Miyagi is thwarting Hicks's attempts to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Miyagi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hicks moves away.
Hicks doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Miyagi counters with a nice uppercut.

Hicks closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Miyagi is trying to control Hicks's posture but Hicks avoids it.

Hicks tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Hicks thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Derrick Hicks will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Miyagi shoots in but no luck this time.

Hicks shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Miyagi is looking to control Hicks's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Miyagi avoid being mounted?

Hicks wants to work for an arm triangle but Miyagi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hicks is tying to control. Miyagi wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are battling for position here. Miyagi manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Hicks wants to pass the guard but Miyagi is keeping the position.
Miyagi will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Hicks trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Miyagi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hicks's guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Miyagi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Miyagi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hicks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hicks lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Miyagi!

Hicks is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Miyagi has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Miyagi is looking to get to half guard.
