Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alan Donald! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kevin Bishop! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bishop lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Donald backs up against the cage.
Kevin Bishop seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bishop moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Bishop listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Donald throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bishop's waist but Bishop gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Donald off to one side. Donald looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bishop is fending him off so far but Donald persists. Nope, Bishop circles away and we're back to standing. Bishop lands a jab to Donald's midsection. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bishop stuns Donald with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Donald takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. Donald walks into a jab. A jab from Bishop does it's job there. Bishop fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Donald sprawls well initially but Bishop persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Bishop trying to control the pace. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Donald wants to get back to full guard. Bishop trying to control the pace. Bishop working over Donald with some ground and pound. Donald looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bishop is taking a breather. Donald says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Bishop working Donald over with strikes. Donald looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Bishop lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Bishop trying to control the pace. Bishop is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Donald has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bishop working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bishop connects with a nice short shot to Donald's temple. Nice strikes from Bishop there. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bishop working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Bishop seems to be working for a kimura but Donald defends the submission attempt. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Donald is trying to get back to full guard. Bishop slows the pace down in half guard. Bishop scoring with strikes to the body and head. Donald wants to sweep but Bishop has passed to side control! Bishop cracks Donald with an elbow. That is naaassty.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bishop scoring with punches and elbows. Bishop tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Bishop grinds an elbow into Donald's temple. Bishop is putting a hurting on Donald here, landing some big shots from side control. Bishop scores with a couple of short elbows. Donald is letting Bishop control him for a moment. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bishop cracks Donald with a big right hand but Donald just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Bishop is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Donald is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Donald is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bishop connects with a decent elbow. Bishop controlling the position. Donald on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Donald being controlled for a moment. Bishop lands a nice forearm strike. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Bishop is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Donald is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Donald taking punishment in the form of punches.
Bishop connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Donald some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kevin Bishop dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Donald gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Bishop counters with a nice uppercut. Bishop lands a nice shot that snaps Donald's head back.
Bishop cracks Donald with an open hand slap. Donald fails with the takedown. Donald really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Bishop.
Donald fails with the takedown and Bishop counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alan Donald. That's going to take a lot out of him. Donald has his takedown stuffed and Bishop connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Kevin Bishop seems to be getting the better of the standup. Bishop keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Donald closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Bishop lands a hook that snaps the head of Donald backwards. Bishop works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

That's one minute gone in the round. Bishop lands a body punch in the clinch. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Bishop lands with a short head shot on the inside. This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Donald. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery. Donald tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Bishop gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Bishop lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Bishop controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Bishop advances position into side control!

Bishop is working to tighten is grip on Donald's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Donald has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Bishop is really squeezing tight and eventually Donald passes out! Bishop breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
