Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bret Sane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Davis! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davis looks for a takedown but Sane sprawls well. Sane shoots for a takedown but Davis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Sane displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Davis. Horrible takedown by Sane or perhaps it was just good defense by Davis which made him look bad. Sane moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Sane is looking to take this fight into the clinch. The crowd cheers as Sane lands an impressive looking overhand right. Davis doesn't seem phased though. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! No luck with that takedown attempt from Sane. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bret Sane. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sane fails with the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sane fails with a takedown attempt. A momentary lapse in concentration from Sane enables Davis to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sane manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Sane working a defensive guard but Davis passes into half guard.
Davis is working for a kimura but Sane is defending it quite comfortably.
Davis wants to work for an arm triangle but Sane is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Sane is trying to control but can't.
