Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maxell Gilbert!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Blake Howard!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gilbert tries to close the distance and clinch up but Howard swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Gilbert shoots for a double leg takedown but Howard sprawls well. He's pushed Gilbert's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Howard shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gilbert's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Howard's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Howard cracks Gilbert with a solid left hand.
Howard is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Howard drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Howard jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Howard lands a couple of digs.
Howard connects with a couple of short punches.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Howard's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Howard pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gilbert is keeping the position for now.
Howard stands up over Gilbert, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Howard is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Howard forces his way into half guard.
Gilbert is breathing heavily.
Howard looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gilbert with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Gilbert wants to get back to his feet.
Howard wants to work for an arm triangle but Gilbert is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Howard is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gilbert is just riding it out for now. Howard eventually gives up the hold.
Gilbert knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Howard on the ground.
Howard is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gilbert doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Howard.
Howard looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Howard is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Howard is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gilbert is rocked!
Howard has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Oh Gilbert is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gilbert takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Howard's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Blake Howard!
