Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Don Hall! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lito Lapid! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lapid shoots and misses and Hall counters with a lovely straight right hand! Hall misses with a two punch combination.
Hall throws the left hand but Lapid avoids the punch easily. Lapid keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Lapid misses with a takedown and Hall counters with a straight right hand. Lapid gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Hall counters with a straight right hand. Don Hall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lito Lapid. Hall lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Lapid moves away from the strike by Hall. Lapid gets caught flat footed, as Hall shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Lapid keeping full guard, as Hall tries to pass. Lapid throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hall uses it to pass to side control.
Hall working the ground and pound. Hall tries to advance to mount but can't. Hall is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lapid has escaped the position, nice work there. Hall wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lapid keeps working.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hall is really struggling to control Lapid but he's trying to hold on to the position. Lapid tries to improve position but can't. Hall scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Lapid to see if he's OK. Lapid tries to improve position but can't. Hall thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Hall lands a few punches from side control.
Lapid is rocked! Hall is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Lapid is trying to escape and Hall transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Lapid is forced to tap! Nice work there by Hall! Very nice indeed!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:03 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Don Hall! Don Hall retains his lightweight title! Jumping up and down and very excited, Don Hall waved his t-shirt featuring [WAO]MADE IN GERMANY's logo in front of the cameras.
