Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Champ Bombada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Woima Karhu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Champ Bombada has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Champ Bombada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Woima Karhu!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karhu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Karhu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Karhu throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Bombada because Karhu loaded up on that one.

Karhu goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Bombada turns into him and now he's in Karhu's guard.
Karhu has his hands on Bombada's head, controlling the position.

Karhu is trying to keep Bombada in close.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Woima Karhu wasn't active enough on the ground.
Karhu avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bombada thows a left - swing and a miss!
Karhu tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bombada swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bombada connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


It looks like Woima Karhu has been cut.
Champ Bombada is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Karhu gets a takedown into half guard.
Karhu is just content to waste time from the top position. Bombada takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karhu wants to control from the top but Bombada keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karhu might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Bombada kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Karhu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bombada keeps working.

Bombada won't allow Karhu to pass to mount.

Karhu seems to be working for a kimura but Bombada defends the submission attempt.
Karhu not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Karhu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bombada swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Karhu throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Bombada lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Karhu backs up against the cage.

A jab-cross combination lands for Bombada and sends Karhu crashing to the mat! Bombada follows him down to the mat - Karhu regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bombada wants to stand up but Karhu has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Bombada has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Karhu tries for a takedown but Bombada sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Karhu misses with a takedown attempt - Bombada sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Champ Bombada has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Woima Karhu.

Karhu shoots for a takedown but Bombada saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Bombada connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Woima Karhu has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bombada tries to stand but Karhu is controlling from the bottom.
Karhu controls Bombada momentarily but Bombada frees himself.
Bombada won't allow Karhu to sweep him here.

Bombada decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Woima Karhu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bombada cracks Karhu with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.


The cut above Woima Karhu's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Karhu throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Bombada.
Karhu avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Karhu throws a head kick but Bombada moves out of range.
Karhu shoots in for a double leg but Bombada sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bombada cracks Karhu with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Bombada misses with an uppercut. Karhu saw that one coming.

Bombada lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Karhu sprawling to the canvas. Bombada follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Karhu hang on?

Bombada wants to get back to his feet.
Bombada is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Karhu manages to get to full guard.

Karhu wants to control the position but Bombada says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Karhu is looking for a sweep. Bombada is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Karhu is looking to control Bombada's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Karhu avoid being mounted?
Bombada wants to stand up but Karhu has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Bombada postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Karhu to stand up.
Bombada throws a hook to the side of Karhu's head but Karhu sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Karhu is looking to take a break and control but Bombada is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Woima Karhu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Karhu has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
