PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Drake Vonstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cleveland Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vonstein comes to the cage accompanied by Seether - Remedy. The crowd seem to be enjoying Brown's choice of entrance music: Cleveland Brown Rap. Brown has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Cleveland Brown has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Drake Vonstein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Cleveland Brown!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown misses with a head kick.
Vonstein scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Brown lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Vonstein throws a shot from downtown. Brown moves away and avoids it.

Vonstein shoots in and gets a takedown into Brown's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Vonstein wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.
Vonstein is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Brown is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Brown looks gassed!
Vonstein loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Vonstein thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Vonstein trying to control the position from guard on top but Brown is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Vonstein controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Vonstein content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Vonstein wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.

Vonstein thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Vonstein drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Brown manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Vonstein has Brown in his guard.
Vonstein has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Vonstein escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brown gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Vonstein doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Vonstein is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Brown defends well.

Vonstein has his foot on Brown's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Brown works his way back into a safe position though.
Brown slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Vonstein.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Drake Vonstein dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


No luck for Vonstein with that takedown attempt.
Brown slaps away a takedown attempt from Vonstein, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Vonstein finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Vonstein tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Brown swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drake Vonstein. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brown wants to clinch up but Vonstein keeps it at a distance.
Brown lands a jab.

Vonstein shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Vonstein wants to work for an arm triangle but Brown is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Vonstein is working for a kimura but Brown is defending it quite comfortably.

Vonstein is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Brown as he works his way to full guard.

Vonstein wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.
Vonstein trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Vonstein with a flurry of punches that miss.

Vonstein postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Brown is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Vonstein, into his guard.
Brown must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Vonstein wants to sweep here but Brown controlling him for the moment.

Vonstein is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Brown rolls with it to try and escape but Vonstein cranks on the arm and Brown is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
